Creation & Medicine
I have not put anything up for a little while. I apologize to all of you for that. Part of the reason has been the trauma surrounding the birth of our 10th grandchild, Abigail Darlene Rodgers. She was born on July 23rd but had major complications and has been in the NICU for the past 6 days. You can find more about her story on Whitney’s Facebook, so I won’t go into any more details here other than to say she is doing much, much better. Still not out of the woods, but so much better.
I have been thinking a great deal during this time about two things that I want to talk about here. The first is how absolutely amazing the handiwork of God is. When He created us, there was so much complexity and really marvelous aspects to that creation. The other is how far medical science has come and how privileged we are to live where we have access to all that medicine can provide.
When you think about the human systems that God created, you cannot help but be completely confounded. We are a maze of blood vessels, nerves, muscle and tissue. We require minute balances of chemicals like potassium, magnesium and even sodium. Most of the time we are oblivious to the fine-tuned balance that God established in our bodies.
Medical science has made and continues to make great advances. The equipment is better, the medicines are nothing short of miraculous, and physicians down to technicians are all superbly equipped.
Despite all of this, for which I am profoundly grateful and thankful, there is so much that the medical world does not know and cannot do. We live and breathe because God has ordained that it be so. How wonderful to know that the finely tuned systems in your body and in mine are kept in place and maintained by the Creator Himself. Go forth today with a grateful heart and give Him thanks, for He is good and His mercies endure forever.
