It all started about a year ago…
I’ve just finished writing a book that I felt deeply moved to put together. For years, people had encouraged me to write, but I never found the time—or perhaps the strength—to take it seriously. But after losing our son, Joshua, everything changed. The grief hit me like a wave, and I felt lost in a world that didn’t understand the depth of the pain. I couldn’t bear to just let his memory fade away. Writing became my way of holding onto him, of honoring him.
But as I poured my heart into the pages, I realized this book was about more than just Joshua’s story. It was a way to reach out to other parents, to show them they’re not alone in their pain, and to offer something meaningful in the midst of the darkness. This book became my way of transforming the grief into something that could help others heal, just as I was trying to heal, and to show them that they’re not alone. All of his life Joshua had simply wanted to feel like he belonged; this book is my way of telling him that he always did.
“Sail with the Tide” will take you on a raw, emotional journey through the eyes of a parent who has watched his child battle the relentless highs and lows of addiction—a disease that wears many faces and impacts countless lives. Joshua’s struggle with drugs and alcohol is a story of triumph and despair, one of moments of hope followed by heartbreaking relapse, of battles fought in silence and with fierce determination. It’s not just his story, but the story of every parent who faces the unthinkable: watching their child fight a war they can’t win for them, not knowing how to help them when the greatest enemy is themselves. The cycle of addiction is brutal and often unforgiving, its grip tightening with every attempt to break free. Through the lens of our family’s journey, you’ll see the profound challenges posed by the penal system and the fragile yet life-changing rehabilitation programs that struggle to stem the tide of the opioid epidemic.
